A 4.2 magnitude earthquake northeast of the San Diego County community of Julian on Wednesday, Dec. 6, was felt throughout Riverside County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake was reported at 4:33 p.m. eight miles from Julian. A magnitude 3.1 aftershock followed at 4:38 p.m. The quakes happened on the Elsinore fault.
A 4.2 magnitude quake can wake people up, rattle dishes and windows and rock cars, but is unlikely to cause much damage, the USGS said.
