8-month old fetus killed in 2-vehicle crash in Santa Ana

A pregnant woman’s eight-month old fetus was killed and three people were injured in a two-vehicle collision in Santa Ana Friday night, June 26, authorities said.

Santa Ana police were searching for the driver of one of the vehicles, who fled the scene on foot following the crash, police said.

Officers were called to the area of First and Lacy streets just after 9:45 p.m. and found the crash, police said.

Orange County firefighters treated three injured people and took them to a local hospital for further treatment. One of the passengers was the pregnant woman, who underwent emergency surgery, but the fetus did not survive, police said.

The conditions of the other two people in the vehicle were not known.

Investigators learned that one of the vehicles was traveling eastbound on First Street before starting a left turn toward northbound Lacy Street. The vehicle was then struck by a second vehicle speeding westbound on First Street, police said.

The driver of the speeding vehicle on foot before police arrived. Officers were not sure if drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
