Ontario police in a statement early Saturday said that at about 10:16 p.m. they received a 911 call from man who said his vehicle had just been stolen with his 10-year-old son inside. The man had gone to a Chevron gas station in the 1000 block of North Ontario Mills Drive to get fuel for his pick-up truck.
“He allowed his son to stay in the vehicle as he went into the store. While he was inside the store, an unknown male stole the vehicle and drove away with the child inside,” a police statement said.
Police issued an Amber Alert throughout Southern California, putting citizens and surrounding agencies including the California Highway Patrol on alert.
At about 11:48 p.m., a resident in Fontana received the Amber Alert and spotted the vehicle in the 12000 block of
Calabash Avenue.
Ontario officers recovered the vehicle with the child still inside and found he had not been harmed.
The suspect, who had not been identified early Saturday, was described as a thin, white man with tattoos on his neck. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, police said.
Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact Ontario police at 909-986-6711.
