Another Southern California storm to bring rainfall toward end of President’s Day weekend

Dry, cloudy weather mixed with some sunshine is projected over the weekend until President’s Day on Monday – then three days of more rain.

Orange County and the Inland Empire will see partly cloudy skies and cooler weather with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s across the weekend. Friday is expected to be the warmest day, with highs at 71 degrees in Lake Elsinore, San Bernardino and Anaheim. By Sunday evening, there is an increased chance of light rainfall, with approximately one to two inches of rain reaching the areas through Wednesday.

Since Jan. 1, roughly 8 to 10 inches of rainfall has been recorded in Orange County and western portions of the Inland Empire, along with 5 to 6 inches in areas near Riverside. The upcoming rainfall brings a chance of localized flooding to Orange County and the Inland Empire, though a much lower flood threat than previous storms, National Weather Service meteorologist Adam Roser said.

In Los Angeles County, partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid 60s to low 70s are forecast until Sunday, before another round of storms early next week. The first chance of rain is expected late Saturday evening to Sunday morning, about a quarter inch or so, then more rainfall late Sunday until Tuesday. Mountain areas above 7000 feet could also see several feet of snow.

An estimated 2 to 5 inches of rainfall are predicted in coastal and valley areas, with up to eight inches in mountain regions, National Weather Service meteorologist Richard Thompson said. Significant flooding is possible during this time.

The rainfall this season has brought roughly 15.8 inches of rainfall in Downtown Los Angeles since Oct. 1, about seven inches above normal rates. As well as 12.75 inches of rain in the Burbank area, roughly 4.8 inches above normal this time of year, Thompson said.
