Checkpoints in Whittier, La Mirada net 1 DUI arrest, 26 citations

Checkpoints held in Whittier and La Mirada late Friday into early Saturday resulted in one DUI arrest and 26 citations, authorities said.
The checkpoints were held overnight at along Mulberry Drive, between Gunn and Mills avenues in Whittier, as well as on Imperial Highway at Valley View Avenue in La Mirada, Whittier police and Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said.

Nearly 1,200 drivers were screened during the Whittier checkpoint, resulting in two “field sobriety tests,” although neither driver was arrested for intoxicated driving, Whittier police Lt. Aaron Ruiz said.
Officers also issued 18 citations to unlicensed drivers, five citations to drivers with suspended or revoked licenses and two “miscellaneous” citations, according to the lieutenant.
In La Mirada, deputies screened just under 1,900 vehicles, sheriff’s Lt. Robin Limon said. Four drivers were tested for DUI, with one of them being arrested on suspicion of committing the crime.
Seven citations were issued for drivers with suspended or revoked licenses, and another four tickets were issued to unlicensed drivers, she said.
