Connoisseurs of Christmas lights all have their favorite spots, and the Southern California News Group highlights some of the best.
But it’s hard to top the La Mirada house that is outrageously decorated with the inspiration of “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” Cousin Eddie and all.
Some might remember the brief kerfuffle when the city threatened to fine the home’s owners because of a second-story facade that was added in 2021, but everyone made nice and the Griswold Family Christmas House, on Golva Drive in La Mirada, is deliciously tackier than ever.
Yes, a department store lingerie counter was added to the display this year.
It’s easy enough to keep the kids from asking uncomfortable questions since that’s on one far end, and they’ll be mesmerized by visions of Cousin Eddie, the RV, Clark Griswold, a Chicago police car, the family tree, various relatives, a kidnapped boss and even neighbors Todd and Margo.
The display is on each night from 5 to 10 p.m. until Dec. 31.
And here’s a pro tip: A short drive away (5.8 miles) in La Palma is Dallas Drive, near the intersection of Walker Street and Houston Avenue. What’s become known as Candy Cane Lane is packed with beautifully decorated homes, and visitors have been entertained over the years by choirs as they stroll the cul-de-sac and take family pictures.
