SANTA ANA — A 35-year-old man was charged Monday with fatally shooting another man in Santa Ana in September.
Jose Manuel Quiroz was charged with murder, with a sentencing enhancement for the discharge of a firearm causing death. Quiroz pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in the Central Justice Center and was scheduled to appear in court again Jan. 22 for a pretrial hearing.
Quiroz is accused of killing 31-year-old Angel Fregoso in Santa Ana, according to Santa Ana Officer Natalie Garcia, a spokeswoman for the police department.
Police were dispatched to the shooting at 2:50 a.m. Sept. 10 in the 1400 block of South Main Street, police said. When officers arrived they found the victim in a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the upper body, police said.
Police said the shooting appeared to be gang-related.
