Authorities likely will not arrest or file criminal charges against a person who sent a threat to Mater Dei High School, which prompted school administrators to shut down the campus through the end of the week, police said Wednesday.
A former employee, who was not identified by authorities, sent the threat, Santa Ana police Sgt. Maria Lopez said. Further details about the threat, the manner in which it was sent or whether it was aimed at anyone in particular were not disclosed.
The threat, which was described as “credible” by officials earlier, was not directed at students, Lopez said.
Additional information about the former employee was not disclosed and Lopez said the incident had been closed as of Wednesday afternoon.
“We’ve conducted our investigation and at the moment we’re not going to be making an arrest,” she said. “I don’t think there’s anything further that our detectives are going to be doing.”
School administrators contacted Santa Ana police after receiving the threat Tuesday, officials said. All classes and campus activities were canceled for the remainder of the week and department chairs were developing online education options for more than 2,000 students.
