Sign removal prompting two nights of closing southbound 405 lanes at Seal Beach Boulevard this week

The framework that holds a 405 Freeway sign has to come down, so the southbound lanes below will be closed overnight for two days this week for safety.

The lanes will be closed between Seal Beach Boulevard and the connector to the eastbound 22 freeway from 11 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, to 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, and again the next night.

The HOV lane of the northbound freeway also will be closed along that stretch.

Drivers heading south should expect to detour off the freeway at Seal Beach Boulevard and take Westminster Boulevard until they can get back on the 405.

The work is part of a $1.9 billion project to widen the 405 and make improvements; 18 bridges spanning the freeway are also being replaced. Two bridge demolition projects have closed the freeway over four nights since August.
