Hundreds of students interested in careers in the construction industry showed off what they’ve learned this week during an annual competition in which they designed and built a structure.
More than 40 Southern California schools, mostly high schools, participated in the Construction Industry Education Foundation competition; they built playhouses, tiny homes, whatever they could imagine for a 96-square-foot structure.
Construction happened quickly. The students had eight hours on Wednesday and four more on Thursday to complete their structures – built in the parking lot of Golden West College. But planning and designing has been going on for months. But planning and designing has been going on for months.
Professionals and union representatives were around to ensure safety and judge the students’ builds.
